Lifestyle Benefits of Plants

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”.

So what does that have to do with plants?

Plants have been shown to reduce stress across a broad spectrum of individuals.  In several studies, visual views of plants have been shown to reduce students stress while taking exams including increasing positive feelings and reducing fear and anger.  In the workplace, it has been demonstrated that plants reduce stress levels, reduce systolic blood pressure, and increase worker productivity.

Indoor plants have proven to also increase task performance and mood.  Intuitively, most people perceive plants as enhancements to indoor home and office environments.  Many studies support the conclusion that attractive settings positively increase a person’s well-being.  And the presence of indoor plants increases comfort and attractiveness of indoor environments.

Interior plants are common in many homes, workplaces and commercial settings.  In the hospitality industry, the presence of plants has been shown to boost occupancy rates and generate profit.  Most people have the sense that plants and nature is both calming and restorative to the human spirit.  This belief is evidenced by the extensive landscaping in residential communities, the use of plants in the tourism industry and theme parks, and interior plantscaping of office and retail spaces.  Likewise, the short-term use of plants for indoor and outdoor events has proven to be beneficial, not to mention beautiful and economical!

800 Plant It has been specializing in short term plants rentals for over 30 years. Trade shows, social, corporate,  and special events are our specialty.

Go Green: Live Plants Transform A Special Event

The success of any event is largely about its design. And event design is all about transformation. The right design has the ability to transport your guests to another place, prompt or inspire emotion. One very important tool in 800 Plant Its  design arsenal is live plant rentals. Plant and tree rentals transform any space, are eco-friendly (ecological AND economical)  and fill a much needed niche in the special events decor industry.

Whether it’s palms, ficus trees with twinkle lights, or an orchid focal arrangement to add a punch of color in a ballroom, creating an indoor Garden; using natural elements on a large or small scale evokes a sense of wonderment, is often very economical, and in this eco-conscious society a wonderful way of going green!

Royal Wedding Décor Without a Royal Budget

Many couples like to have a theme for their weddings, and one that appeals to both brides and grooms is a garden theme wedding. A garden represents the planting of seeds, growing plants, and a harvest that nurtures the body and soul – all ideas that directly correlate with weddings and marriage!

Of course, an obvious venue for a garden theme wedding is the outdoors, whether it is your backyard, a scenic park (make sure you get the proper license needed), or even a botanical garden.  Planning a winter wedding?  No worries. You can still have a garden themed wedding even in the coldest days of winter. Just bring the ceremony indoors and surround the venue with live potted plants…just like Prince William and Kate Middleton did at their royal wedding.

It had been Kate’s wish to be married in an English garden her wish came true by bringing nature into Westminster Abby. To create the look and feel of a garden, eight 20-foot live trees flanked the aisles that were also decorated with a variety of live shrubs – beech, lilac, azaleas, rhododendrons, wisteria and euphorbia.  The effect of the live green décor was simply stunning.

Of course, most of us are operating with a smaller budget than that of the royal couple, but it doesn’t matter. Whatever your budget, there are a multitude of beautiful décor possibilities with live plants, trees and flowers. Any of which can make your garden wedding a beautiful reality.

Award Shows Go Green With Live Plant Decor

Along with the glitz, glamour and celebrities there was something else award-worthy at the Primetime Emmy Awards. The Primetime Emmy Awards, in conjunction with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, aimed to reduce the award show’s carbon footprint.

Most notably, the shows’ red carpet has gone green. It was made in Los Angeles at the world’s only LEED-certified carpet factory and contained 50% recycled materials. Electricity for the show was provided by more than 250 locally manufactured solar panels to power the energy efficient and fluorescent lights. The panels were also connected to Los Angeles’ power grid and the lights used approximately 20% of the power normally used on the red carpet.

Food served at the awards was all locally sourced and any leftovers were composted after the show. Everything from paper to bottles to plastic was sorted and recycled, while tables, chairs and linens were rented and live plants were used instead of cut flowers.

And the Emmy’s aren’t the only awards to jump on the green bandwagon. The Grammys, The Academy Awards and the Teen Choice Awards also showed some eco-friendly spirit.

So whether you agree or disagree with best actress, best movie or even best vampire kiss, we can all agree that doing anything to help the environment is a winner.
